Reference: (a) BuMed dispatch 081930 March 1948

1. In accordance with the recommendation of the Retirement Advisory Board, Navy Department, you are authorized to report at 0900 on 18 July 1949, to the President, Naval Retiring Board, Navy Department, Potomac Annex, Building 22, 23rd and E Streets, N.W.0 Washington, D.C., for examination for retirement.

2. After you appear before the Naval Retiring Board on the date specified in paragraph one above, that Board may find it  necessary for you to be admitted to a naval hospital for a period of observation, the duration of which will probably not exceed three weeks, in order to furnish the Naval Retiring Board information about your physical status. In such event, the Naval Retiring Board will provide you with the necessary admittance authorization in accordance with reference (a), and during your stay in the naval hospital, you will be charged only a nominal rations charge amounting to approximately one dollar five cents
per day.

3. The above is authorized with the understanding that you will not be entitled to reimbursement for mileage or expense in connection therewith. In case you do not desire to bear this expense, or, if for any reason you fail to report to the Naval Retiring Board on the date specified, you will regard paragraph one of this authorization as revoked.

4. Whether you appear in person or not, you may be  represented by counsel if you so desire. You are advised in the event you desire legal counsel to assist or represent you in presenting your case before the Naval Retiring Board, that competent legal assistance is available without expense to you. Should you desire to avail yourself of this service, you may apply to the Judge Advocate General, Navy Department, Washington, D.C.
