J. Burton Farber presented a certificate which as been issued to him by the Church of Scientology conferring upon him the degree of Doctor of Divinity as authorized by the Secretary of State of California, charter [#283196.], This is the first time I know of that I have talked with a Doctor who has been awarded a degree by himself and by a corporation of which he and his wife are two thirds of the corporate body. This is also the first time that I know of any Church a degree of Doctor of Divinity, usually it is some approved school, which has been chartered to do so.

He offered me his card which read: “Dr, J. Burton Farber, B.Scn. D.D.” I asked him if the Doctor referred to in connection with his name was that of the degree of Doctor of Divinity which we had just discussed and he said: “Yes, it was”. He did not leave the card. He did promise to send us typewritten copies of the articles of corporation of his Church so that we may have full information as to its aims and purposes as represented in the charter.
