Bufiles disclose Ronald Lafayette Hubbard is the founder of the Founding Church of Scientology and is President of the Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation, Inc. In March, 1951, the Board of Medical Examiners, State of New Jersey, had a case against the latter organization on the grounds that it was conducting a school of medicine and surgery without a license. On 4-24-51 the “Washington Times Herald” carried an article indicating that Hubbard’s wife, in suing for divorce, claimed he was “hopelessly insane.” According to the article, competent medical advisors recommended that he be committed to a private sanitarium for psychiatric observation and treatment of a mental ailment known as “paranoid schizophrenia.” In August, 1966, the Department of Justice requested information concerning his Church due to the fact the Tax Division was involved in litigation concerning its tax exempt status, This organization has also been investigated by the Food and Drug Administration, Internal Revenue Service, and the Army.
