Scientologists are completing the full Basics Book and Lecture Course lineup every day at Flag. And that many course graduates prompts the obvious questions: “What is life like after the Basics?” And, of course, “What’s next?” In this special feature, we examine the many advantages for those studying the Basics at Flag, and where our graduates go to build upon the ultimate foundation for their eternity.1
Cataloguing the many advantages of those moving through the Basics at Flag leads you straight to the obvious answer you’ll get when you ask the students themselves, “Where do I start?!” You could calculate it in the number of miracle successes, the abilities regained, the cognitions per minute or any of a dozen other ways, all of which would be perfectly accurate.
Yet examining them all shows three distinct main lines of successes: 1) Handling physical conditions by understanding their mental and spiritual origins, 2) Flying up both sides of The
Bridge with unparalleled speed and gains, and 3) Gaining the ability to handle life and succeed. A rapid survey of Flag’s full Basics completions will also show you that most tend to
experience all three.TECH AT WORK
Rick Gertsen experienced an almost fatal accident two years ago, leaving every bone in his left leg shattered and titanium reinforcements from his ankle all the way to his hip. He spent three weeks in the hospital, most of it in intensive care and three months in a hospital bed and then in a wheelchair. He was told by the “medicos” that he would probably be able to walk in a few years, but with a limp. Yet that wasn’t all of his physical issues. Rick also suffered from high blood pressure and an erratic heartbeat. But after studying his Basics, Rick does walk and without a cane or assistance. He also handled his high blood pressure and his heartbeat is stabilized. All he did was take the data he had and change his postulate. In his words, “I took a look at what the thought, effort and emotion there was in regards to my using this cane. In looking at the effort behind it, I found the postulate. I changed that postulate at that moment and haven’t picked up the cane since. Now that’s tech at work!”
Needless to say, his life has changed forever.
FLAG FACT: Scientologists studying the Basics at Flag have completed over 25,000 Basics courses in the past year alone.
Another Basics student regained his life while doing the full lineup. He was, what he terms an “adrenaline junky.” He engaged in extreme sports and never missed an opportunity to thrust himself into dangerous situations to get exhilaration out of life. Yet when at the age of 21 he began feeling 90 years old, with severe back pain and a numb leg, he knew he had hit rock bottom.
He decided it was time to do Scientology for real.
He moved to Clearwater and routed onto the Basics the next day. He didn’t really know what to expect when he started, but by the time he made it through his first book, he knew he was on the right road.
As for what ultimately came of that journey, he discovered who he was and surprisingly discovered what decisions he had made that created his back and leg trouble. He decided to disagree, and promptly blew the somatic in his leg and handled his back pain. But his biggest reward is experiencing over and over the ultimate in adventure of following in LRH’s
footsteps, which is full of more excitement and life changing experiences than he ever thought possible. And when it comes to his future, he knows what this planet needs most: Auditors. So he’s now training full time to become a Class V Graduate Auditor!
LIFE AFTER THE BASICS
Now what occurs when someone has left the comfort and security of the Flag Mecca where the tech is delivered purely and things just flow? After all, applying the gains in day-to-day
living is just as important as attaining them.Well, those who have studied the Basics while on service have returned and the effects are panoramic across all dynamics.
One student handled a paralyzing fear of losing in life – but the Basics coupled with her auditing enabled her to sleep at night instead of sitting awake mired down by worry, as her fear is gone for good.
Another student returned home to find that her previously antagonistic and downtone family members were now in ARC with her and doing better in their own lives.
And as none survive on merely one or two dynamics, those returning home after studying the Basics at Flag can’t help but see third and fourth dynamic situations and handle what they see.

GRADUATES OF THE BASICS OF DIANETICS AND SCIENTOLOGY
Flag’s Public Services Division has now begun issuing a limited number of brand-new Basics Completion Cards for graduates of the full lineup. For those with the strong purpose and determination to get through now, studying full-time continues to have its advantages — not the least of which is how much faster they get moving up The Bridge as a result.
For example, Leigh Ann Lemire had a major sit to address and right in her own backyard. Within a week of returning, she handled a gang fight which was occurring with over fifty kids. She gathered information on what to do about gangs, organized to get The Way to Happiness distributed into the area, and began a full project to terminatedly handle the scene. Those previously trouble-making kids are now polite and respectful to her and the havoc they were creating has ceased.
Desiree Lotz has also experienced a major surge in responsibility from the Basics. She had long desired to get LRH’s data on radiation and toxins into use, but for years she wasn’t doing much about it. While on the Basics, she decided to change that. She began studying up on radiation and those occupations most harmfully affected. She learned what LRH had to say and has now accepted a post that will enable her to actually do something about it as the Case Supervisor for the New York City Detox Center.
THE BASICS AND OT
When you have traveled up The Bridge to OT, the importance of the Basics becomes even more manifest as New OT VIII, Class VIII Auditor Kathy Feshbach would attest many times over. Having added the title of Full Basics Completion to her list of credentials, here’s what she had to say about her journey:
“I’m now New OT VIII, Class VIII, Golden Age of Tech Auditor. On the Basics, I gained a greater understanding of all of the past religions and, of course, LRH took me back down the time track through 76 trillion years.
“I was able to remove from myself any misconceptions I had about the past in helping man. The urgency is now for all of us to be done with the Basics and I do not need to put your attention on the insanity of planet Earth now. But if all of us have this knowledge, together we will be a formidable force, because we will know, as a team, how to handle man. I realized that we are the force that rides above this planet and not a minute can be wasted on anything that does not align with doing the Basics and getting up The Bridge now!”
