Dear Sir:
This will acknowledge your letter of May 9th regarding Mr. Lafayette R. Hubbard who has given my name as personal reference.
During my personal contacts with Mr. Hubbard a number of years ago, while he was living in this vicinity and writing for various aeronautical publications, I gained the opinion that he was a man of excellent personal character and integrity, resourceful, energetic and mentally alert. I believe that he would be a valuable officer in the U. S. Naval Reserve if he secures the commission he desires.
Very truly yours,
(Signed)
