FLAG ORDER 3303R
29 March 1973
Reissued and Revised 10 April 1973
Replaces & Revises FO 3303MINOR’S MATE ESTABLISHED1
All minors i.e. those under 21 (excepting in those countries where the Legal age of Consent is 18 ), who are a member of the SO without their legal guardians are to be assigned a “Minor’s Mate” who acts in the capacity of Guardian. The duties of a Minor’s Mate also apply to parents.
Minor’s Mates are chosen by PCO and assigned with the agreement of the minor and Minor’s Mate concerned.
Any ethics action needed to be taken on a minor may also include penalties for the Minor’s Mate. However, if the matter was reported for handling by the Minor’s Mate then he is immune from penalty.
The Minor’s Mate is charged with the responsibility of the minor’s steady progress as an individual and group member, well-being and in-ethics behaviour.
A Minor’s Mate hat is to be provided by HCO with all necessary FOs and Policy pertaining to Minors.
Duty as a Minor’s Mate is to be taken into consideration by the OSB as it is a good indicator of Officer responsibility.
