Denver, ColoradoDuring the past few weeks; the Allied Scientists of the World have sent out an extensive mailing to individuals, stating “In view of your outstanding work you have been elected to Fellowship in our organization.” Annual dues of $25 are requested. The Allied Scientists of the World, which we are advised is now in the process of incorporating in Colorado, is sponsored by the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation,Inc., formerly located in Elizabeth, New Jersey and presently at 211 West Douglas St., Wichita, Kansas.
The Hubbard Dianetic Research Foundation was incorporated in New Jersey in April,1950 as a “non-profit, scientific and educational corporation, the primary purpose of which is to do research in the field of Dianetics and, for the correction of all psychosomatic ills of mankind.” Dianetics is defined in Webster’s as Meaning ” of or pertaining to reasoning, especially discursive reasoning”.
The officers of the Foundation are Donald G. Purcell, President; L. Ron Hubbard (or Lafayette R. Hubbard), Vice President and Chairman of the Board; John W. Maloney, Secretary and Treasurer.
The Foundation moved its headquarters to Wichita during 1951 and incorporated in Kansas. The organization is now in receivership as a result of action brought in the District Court in Wichita in behalf of Eastern creditors. We understand the case has been appealed to the Kansas Supreme Court and is now pending.)
Allied Scientists of the World states its purposes as follows: “The banding together of ALL scientists of note in an effort to place science itself under the United Nations… to construct and stock a library to be known at the INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY OF ARTS AND SCIENCE in an atomic-proof area where the culture and technology of the United States could be stored ….”
The Board of Governors is listed as follows:
Chairman — Lafayette R. Hubbard, who has been described as ” the originator of this new science Dianetics,” author of Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health published in May,1950, a mathematician who has worked in “basic mind research, on the basis of electronic,” and a member of the Explorer’s Club and the Gerontological Society.
Vice-Chairman — Donald G. Purcell, described as an architectural engineer from Kansas State College, nationally known home builder, and one of the first graduate of the Foundation’s “professional school” for training “professional” or “certified Dianetics auditors.”
Secretary-Treas. — John W. Maloney described as a graduate of St. Johns College of New York City, securities broker, industrial relations personnel -sales management executive.
ASW states that three classes of membership are offered — Member, Fellow, and Associate Member. “There is also the status of PATRON OF SCIENCE and that of CONTRIBUTOR. All funds so gained are used in the operation of the ASW and the contribution campaign for the INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY or the UN Charter.”
With respect to Dianetics, ASW states ” A Member or Fellow takes no responsibility for Dianetics, directly or indirectly. Dianetics has been the means of making this organization possible.
The resources of the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation,Inc., are at the disposal of this organization. No income of the ASW is due, owing or will be paid to the Foundation.”
NBBB is revising its report on the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation, Inc., and copies will be available upon request.
