J. Kevin O’Brien
Chief
Freedom of Information-Privacy Acts Section
Federal Bureau of Investigation
J. Edgar Hoover Building
Washington, D.C. 20535Dear Mr. O’Brien:
I am the President of the Church of Scientology of California. Scientology is an internationally recognized religion in 71 countries around the world with hundreds of missions and churches involved solely in religious, charitable and community-oriented programs.
It has come to my attention that FBI files often contain misleading and erroneous information about the Church of Scientology, the Scientology religion itself’, and about L. Ron Hubbard, the Founder of the religion.
Because this information is sometimes disseminated to individuals under the Freedom of Information Act, I am asking that you place the enclosed booklets in the appropriate Main Files and that you send a copy of these to future FOIA requestors. I also ask that they be appropriately cross-indexed to any files mentioning L. Ron Hubbard, Church of Scientology, Dianetics generally or Scientology generally.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to receiving your acknowlegement by return letter that these booklets are now part your office’s files.
Gail Armstrong
President
Church of Scientology of California
