On September 13, 1963, […] Seattle, Washington Police Department, advised that on September 11, 1963,

WILLIAM J. FISK, Seattle, head of a religious mystical church was shot to death before members of his group in the Seattle headquarters in the Church of Scientology of Washington State. […] surrendered to the Seattle Police Department. He was charged with the premeditated killing and his apparent motive was his belief that his wife’s estrangement from him resulted from the instructions given to this group by FISK.

[…] Among the possessions of the deceased was the enclosed pamphlet entitled “Brainwashing A Synthesis of the Russian Textbook on Psychopolitics,” a copy of which is enclosed for the Bureau’s information.

For your information, the document has been given wide distribution since its publication in 1955.

NOTE: Oklahoma City Office forwarded to Bureau captioned document which could be construed as a text on brainwashing which elaborates on a purported address by “Beria” to American students at “Lenin University” at an unspecified date. The document contains some reasonable statements and also much that is in incomprehensible. The author of the document, [xxx] does not claim that it is a textbook, but states that it is “a synthesis of information gathered…over the last 10 years.”

As the eyes and ears of an entire world were focused this past week on the trial of Francis Powers in Russia, I was reminded of a report that newscaster George Putnam sent me several months ago. The following is an excerpt from “Brainwashing,” a Russian textbook on psycho-politics as used in the training of Red agents.

The publication was described in the column as a Russian textbook on psycho-politics.
